We left London at 2030 last night on Qatar airways heading for Doha. Our first experience of Doha airport was fleeting as we had to dash to our connecting flight - that said if we had time there were lots of shops to browse.
We finally arrived in Dar es Salaam at 1325, 15 minutes early, but that paled into insignificance when I emerged after 11/2 hours with my visa and John finally exited after just over two hours. Note to self: if going to Dar get the visas before arriving. That said Kilimanjaro and the land border are very swift. Dar wasn't helped by two planes arriving at once , Kenyan Airways and us - but their archaic bureaucracy requires some mega modernisation to be anywhere near as efficient as Rwanda!
By getting out early I was able to find and reassure our driver, get a SIM card for my iPad and some much needed Tanzanian currency. All set we then had a tortuous traffic laden trip to the Dar Southern Sun hotel where I was at least able to have a swim before dinner.
Good food if indifferent service - after my comment on trip advisor they offered me a free meal the next time we visit - not sure when that is likely to be!
