Day 9: Our shortest day, Peebles to Perth, negotiated Edinburgh, had great views of the Forth Road & Rail bridges before crossing north. Day 8: We left Hadrian's Wall at 0730 and passed into Scotland at 0910am; we headed north over the rolling hillsides full of sheep and cattle to Peebles; the climbs were slow & steady with long sweeping downhills - nicer than the really sharp ones in England. Severe neck ache!

Day 7: The longest day - final total was 98miles - I set off at 7.45 am and finished at 6.45pm - exhausted! The highlight was staying in an English Heritage hostel on Hadrian's wall and thankfully the sun was out.

Day 6: 79 miles to Skipton with 5 big climbs - I want plateaus not hills - 1up &1 down! Cold wet start, cold winds, 10 hours in the saddle - smelt fish and chips in every town/village we went through in Yorks & saw more Range Rovers, BMWs and Mercedes than normal. Arrived 6pm!

Day 5 Clun to Congleton, hard start then lovely country lanes and a little more like Cambridgeshire. Developing a strange tan - arms, knees, lower legs and face - not very becoming if I go to a pool. Great to see Carole and Mark at the end - last supporters, now on my own!
