Today after a less than awe inspiring breakfast but a good nights sleep we left the warmth of Butare for the cooler climes of the southern mountains and Nyungwe Forest - the largest in tact rainforest in Africa.
Enroute we watched people going about their daily lives ( today's photo) - produce was being taken to the market and people were coming from all directions to get there along with their produce and livestock - we saw several pigs most being walked there but one medium sized one was strapped to the back of a bicycle - it lay motionless but was definitely alive ! This area is close to the Burundi border consequently we went through a refuge camp for those fleeing the current conflict - it seemed very full so many must have escaped from that countries turmoil.
As we went higher we saw more tea being grown and as we got near to the hotel we went through a large tea plantation.
Our hotel for the night was Hill Top View - everything is in the name - we could even see lake Kivu from our balcony.
The staff were lovely and the food was great albeit we didn't see another guest - there must have been some as the chalets were being cleaned out.
An early night was on the cards - no New Years celebrations for us as it is a 3.50 am get up tomorrow for chimp tracking.
