Another leisurely start as we thought we were going to track Colobus monkeys at 1000am......but Charles arrived as we were finishing breakfast and said he had just spoken to the guide who was on his way to the forest near the lodge. We collected our gear and headed to the main gate where we joined 3 young girls and Daniel, our chimp guide, watching Black and White Colobus monkeys. A leisurely start to the day before heading to Uwinka where several trails and the canopy walkway start from. We were going on the canopy only 60 metres off the ground - my feet were already tingling at breakfast at the thought of it. If we were meant to go that high we would have wings! Enroute to Uwinka I was too late with my camera and missed photos of a group of great blue turacos eating on the verge, which is unusual, but I did get some good pictures of L'h...

Awake before the 3.50am alarm - recent holidays have had an abundance of really early starts - bears,bats and now chimpanzees! A thunderstorm was passing over head and there was torrential rain falling - oh no! Today after a less than awe inspiring breakfast but a good nights sleep we left the warmth of Butare for the cooler climes of the southern mountains and Nyungwe Forest - the largest in tact rainforest in Africa.
