We had our usual start to the day - tea followed by a walk - a bit longer today - as the terrain is undulating it always feels like great exercise while enjoying the wildlife - today I got a great picture of a white bellied 'go away' bird. The walk always ends with a steep uphill section which really sets you up for the day.
We arranged for breakfast at 9.15 which enabled me to have a swim before showering so I had a really refreshing start to the day.
At 11am we met Timothy and Ben and headed off to the Eswaro Negro River for a picnic lunch. The last time we went there was when we did the walking safari with camels in 2007 - the lunch spot was our first nights camping site.
We saw gerenuk ( the word is Ethiopian for long necked - it looks like a long necked Impala - today's photo) they thrive in dry areas. The lunch highlight was watching the cattle from the ranch and research reserve opposite coming to the river to drink -it was fascinating watching them.
When we got back we had our now daily massage.
John and Gill came for dinner and to celebrate John's birthday (tomorrow) chef made him a coffee and walnut cake which the staff brought in and sang 'happy birthday' to him.
A great way to celebrate his birthday - quiet but special.
