We left Cambridge on the 1045 train and arrived in London with time to spare, or so we thought so had a coffee at Pret a Manger before heading to the tube and the hour trip to Heathrow Terminal 5.
Little did we know that the tube would terminate at Northfields due to a trespasser on the line - we were directed to get a bus to Ealing Broadway and the the Heathrow Connect - the E2 bus was fortunately at the bus stop so we jumped on but on arrival at Ealing Broadway they announced that the Heathrow Connect was also affected by the trespasser. Luckily the announcer then told the packed platform that if we waited for the next train they had been reliably informed that it was going to Heathrow.
He was right as we set off from the last stop before Heathrow I was happy that we would make it in time and our hour wriggle room would allow us to book in 3 hours before and still have time to relax and have lunch in the lounge - phew - the closest call yet we have had with public transport and catching flights!
That said our flight to Vancouver was delayed by half an hour while they off loaded the baggage of a passenger who failed to show - I often wonder where they go and why they miss the flight - shopping, fell asleep, nerves, wrong gate, better offer or .......?
We eventually got to Vancouver where we made our way to the Sandman hotel for a fitful nights sleep and the necessity for drinks at 3 am while we adjusted to the 8 hour time difference.
