We were up early after a surprisingly good nights sleep and after breakfast settled up and got a taxi to collect our car from Ace car hire.
First stop was a large shopping centre near the airport. We walked around before going to the large New World Supermarket to get our supplies - it is the best stocked supermarket around - but still missing the UK extensive ranges. I spotted a hairdresser - working on a Sunday - so went in for a haircut - I needed something a bit more manageable for one hand and the young Irish stylist did a great job.
After the shopping and a quick coffee and pancakes ( drat they weren't crepes - I must remember their pancakes are more US hotcakes and thick - not so appetising) we headed up the shorter mountainous route to Lake Wanaka. After the early z bends we settled into a beautifully scenic trip - lots of blue, pink and yellow lupins out giving carpets of colour and some beautiful spring/summer foliage.
We arrived at the resort at 1330ish and spent the rest of the day settling in to our lovely 2 bed apartment.
