We slept fairly well on the flight and after several 20hour bus journeys the 13 hour flight went quickly. We arrived at Auckland at 4am and had to wait until 10am to pick our campervan up. We waited at the airport for a while before heading in to Auckland and wasted time in a in a cafe near the depot.
We headed on our way to Waitomo, i pod plugged in for the 3 hour drive. We arrived at the caves at about 3pm after finding a camp site in the nearby town of Ohrongtonga. The caves were more expensive than we had planned so went for the standard 45 minutes tour of the cave which ended in a short boat ride to see the glow-worms, which the cave is famous for. Unfortunately we were not able to take photos but they were very cool. The worms looked like fairy lights on the roof of the cave, they are so bright it looked fake. After the tour we headed back in to town and stopped off at a McDonald's to use their wifi. There was a cheap deal on a double meal so we were persuaded to order that for our dinner, our second McDonalds that day as we had one for breakfast at the airport! Woooops!
