Slumdog Millionaire....
So Pete, Josh and Owen arrived back in Bangkok at 6am on June 10th and within 10 minutes we realised Bangkok has screwed us again. We're on the lower floor on the bus, half asleep, and arrive at the bus stop to the sounds of banging on the windows and some delightful Thai gentlemen shouting "Get up! Get up!" and "Khao San road! Khao San road!" just whet you need at 6am. So, confused about where we actually are in Bangkok, a taxi was negotiated from 200 baht to 100 baht to get to the Khao San road for four people. Essentially this 50p each, great, but when we arrive and start unpacking the bags (about 2 minutes later) we see others from our bus walking passed us having walked from the bus stop in less time. They look at us. We look at them. Everyone realises we have just been screwed by Bangkok once again, and then we turn towards our taxi driver. By this time he has realised that we know we should of paid about a quarter of the price, and with some random Thai guy on the street, he starts pissing himself laughing at us. To be fair, in hindsight, it was only 2 quid, and I do sort of commend his gall by getting away with it, but still - cheeky.
After a quick nap we headed for a swim at a hostel down the road from where we were staying, and then we headed back to MBK, the big shopping centre we had been to a week early. No massage this week, just a few cheap t-shirts.
So Owen had two nights left before he headed home and one thing he wanted to do was go to a ping pong show so Pete and Josh volunteered to go with so he wasn't on his own. It was exactly the same at the previous except half the price. Pretty sure we got ripped off the first time.
The next night was a night of luxury at a four star hotel - also know as flashpacking- The Four Points by Sheraton. So, as you do as a budget traveller, we chilled next to the rooftop pool whilst drinking a cold drink from the rooftop bar, in the glorious sunshine with table service and some nice music in the background. Chilled. We then headed back to the room where we both at some point had a bath. Nice change from the shower. Pete went all out- cup of tea and some biscuits along with some music on his iPod and he was ready for his bath. Once out of the bath Pete went for the bath robe from the cupboard and at about half 10 we both crashed out in our queen beds and woke up 12 hours later with the great idea of breakfast in bed coming to mind. So room service it was.
After enjoying the morning in luxury we came back to reality, moving back to traveller world, with our twin room with no windows or bathroom (it did have air con though). We spent another evening in Bangkok with a 5.5litre tower of beer which some French guy called Fahrouzi decided we couldn't manage and that he should help us by having one glass which became two and then five!!! He was also a little bit crazy. Every story we told was followed by "is it true!?!?" and then "you guys are crazy man". He was in fact the crazy one, and also the ballsy one as he continued to drink free drinks, and even wanted us to pour them for him too. This was time to leave. We paid our bill, went to the toilet, and on the way out both forgot where we sat and ended up in another bar. Complete accident.
Another hangover day in Bangkok brings us to today, where we went up the sky tower. It's the tallest building in Bangkok and when you get to the top floor (84th) there is a revolving platform so that you get a great view of the whole city. This was a nice chilled day out before our current bus journey to koh phagnan for the full moon party on Thursday.
Hope you enjoy the read and we will be in touch soon
