So after staying at Bimb's house (the mansion), we managed to get a lift into Arusha from one of his collegues who was heading that way. We decided to stop off at Impala hotel which is a little complex of hotels, restaurants and cafes. After going on the internet and getting some Tanzanian money out, we went up to the closest restaurant where we had some supprisingly cheap food. I then got a call from Tessa and Rupert Mclelan (Ken Grant's cousins and Seumas' godfather saying that they would be happy to have us and could pick us up later. luke and I decided to walk to the meeting point which was the wrong choice as we didn't realise how big Arusa was! But they managed to pick us up and take us to their house on a coffee plantation with Mt Meru in the background. They are such welcoming people and they have 3 dogs and were looking after a very cute puppy for a while! We got an early night as we were still recovering from the very long journey.
The next day Tessa very kindly offered to take us into town to book our bus through the Serengetti (and to pick up Luke's phone that he left at Bimb's!). On the way we went to a Matumba (a massive second hand market) and I got a raincoat for the gorrilla trecking and luke got a Fez. Afterwards we went to a safari consultant who advised us not to go through the serengeti as it would cost $500 overall! So they kindly booked the bus to Mwanza for us and Tessa offered to take us to Arusha national park the next day. In the afternoon we went to the local club to go running with Andrew, the safari consultant, and then swimming in the pool. After not doing proper excercise for months, Luke and I were exhuasted!
We got up very early the next morning to go to Arusha national park. It has such amazing scenery with Mt Meru close by, Mt Kilimanjaro in the backround, beautiful forests and stunning lakes full of Flamingoes. We headed off to the lakes first where we had breakfast with zebra, giraffes and Mt Kilimanjaro in the background. We then drove around the other lakes and saw some beautiful birds and many flamingoes flying over the stunning soda lakes. We then drove to a crater and looked over the massive open plain. When we got back to the house luke and I decided to book the ferry accross lake Victoria from Mwanza to Bukoba in 2 days. When we rang them up we found out that the ferry had broken down the day before and wouldn't be fixed in time. This made us panic but as the Mclelans had wifi we figured that we could either hitch a ride accross on a cargo ferry or get a bus around.
