We got a bus to the van pick up site and headed in. The van/car is basically a people carrier that has been converted pretty successfully into a campervan. It's name (not our choosing) is Norma and has it's name is on a sticker on the side of the car. It's bright orange and only has one big dent in the boot but otherwise OK! There is a fridge, storage space and pots, pans, two cooking stoves and a fairly large double bed in the back. After some trouble with our cards (I was very worried I had run out of money but I definately didn't) we payed, signed some forms and headed off. After picking up our bags from the various places we had dropped them off, we headed out of Sydney and tried to find a supermarket to stock up on food. This was a trolley full of food and drinks. Seumas was supprised at how much we had bought but it was all needed. It cost quite a lot but it should last us a while. Because we didn't want to set up our van in the dark we stopped off in a site just off the pacific highway. It was quite loud because it was next to the road and had trucks coming in every now and then but it was good to stop off and sort everything out inside. I was the cook for that evening as seumas doesn't really have a clue how to do anything so he set up the rear awning (the boot opened with a canvas popped on) and did some more sorting out.
The next day, after a night of not very good sleep, we woke up and had a lovely view of the lake we had parked next to. We then had a lovely cooked breakfast and headed off. Seumas bought a massive 1 kg of tea with him from kenya so we definately wouldn't run out of that. Sadly we didn't have a tea strainer with us so we couldn't have any tea. Along the way we saw signs for the Australia reptile park so we decided to go there. This was definately the correct decision. So many reptiles and cool animals!! Massive crocs, tasmanian devils, kangaroos you could pet, dingoes, koalas and lots of nasty snakes and spiders. Seumas had bought a akubra hat (very expensive) so was worrying about it the whole time. There were some good talks on tasmanian devils, crocs, a snake and some toads. Well worth going to.
Our next campsite was in a forest quite far off the road. Just before we got there, there was some trafic queues because the river had flooded due to the storm that had just happened. This was worrying but we got to our turn off fine. As we started to go down the dirt track, there were quite a few trees fallen down in the middle of hte road. We managed to clear 3 out te way before we found one that couldn't be cleared. This meant we had to park just off the side of the road. There was a small road just off to the side that we managed to park in. Because we were on the road we could light a fire. I had fire lighters fro some BBQs we had in SA so it was very easy to start one. We cooked bacon, and burgers and had some lovely baked potatoes, all cooked on the fire. Very yummy. Now for our second night's sleep in the van. We watched half of a really crappy dvd we got before we decided it was really awful.
