Jono's Travels
What is there to say about today, well... Certainly not as much as there was to say about yesterday, but still... Quite a bit happened despite it being a travel day. First off, after breakfast we got to the bus ready to make our way to Switzerland only to find Conner had slept in after a good night out therefore was 10 minutes late to the bus... Normally this is bad as it delays us all, but today this wasn't a too big a deal, and probably even less stress for him seeing he thought he had held us up by a couple of hours. We hopped on the bus from our hostel and began our trip to Interlarken in Switzerland, about 9 hours from our start point. I had hoped to have used some of the time on the trip to sleep, but ended up using most of the time finishing off yesterday's blog. Along the way we introduced ourselves with our names, where we were from, what superhero power we would have along with other info including our most embarrassing moment, I won't go into details, but I think Chase probably had the worst, although Ryan's story was pretty embarrassing as well. We then had the 2 truths and a lie, but trying to come up with something that sounds realistic is actually harder than you would think, well for me it was at least. A quick stop for lunch, we used Fabians skills as a chef to cut up the fruit, he was so fast it really made the lunch stop a lot quicker. We were back on the road and proceeded to the border into Switzerland. Ronnie (our driver) got onto the bus at the border and asked if there were any Kiwis, and advised that we had to get off, we were about to grab our passports when he said he was joking in his Scottish voice, funny at the time. As we crossed the border into Switzerland, it was amazing to see how quickly the scenery changes, it's so much greener and the trees are so different. The Swiss aren't ones for conflict as they stay out of wars, I find this rather strange as they make it compulsory for all people to do two years service in the army, or two years of some other kind of service. Home to the highest point in Europe, 72 waterfalls and one of the largest nature conservations, unfortunately there is quiet a bit of rain today so trying to get a good picture is not easy. We spent a next couple of hours travelling through the countryside and taking in the amazing views until reaching our stop for the night in a small village called Interlarken. After checking into our hostel for the night we made our way up a couple of small staircases to our small little rooms. They described our rooms as Coke rooms, upon opening our room I realised why, the sheets were a red and white squares, the same colour as coke cans, but really.. It's just the Swiss flag colours. I took off for a quick little walk down some random streets to see what there was to see before heading back to the hostel to have dinner, dinner consisted of a Cheese fondue with some bread followed by our meal which was potatoes, a bratwurst sausage and some salad. After dinner some of the crew went up to bed, while the rest of us made had a few drinks at a local pub, before making our way to our hostels underground club. A few free drinks provided to some of us by the girl behind the bar, they had just got a new Red Bull which was Kiwi & Apple, because of that, the girl behind the bar was trying to come up with a new drink to use it with, so we were Guinea pigs. We were the first ones in there so it was a quiet start, but slowly others began arriving at the bar, the music was rather average, so Ronnie our bus driver pulled out his cellphone and put on some music. Ronnie use to be a DJ, but unfortunately some of his music wouldn't download so we just had to settle for what he had. As the night progressed more alcohol was consumed, the more dancing we did and the better we got, or perhaps that was the illusion of being better dances due to the alcohol. Heading to bed as tomorrow we are heading off on a train ride.
