Jono's Travels
Hard getting up this morning with only a few hours of sleep and a lot of drinking last night, but I wanted to make sure I saw Schindler's factory and the bus was leaving for there at 9am. I woke with only 30 minutes before the bus was due to leave so it was a quick shower and then down to the bus in time to head to the factory. We arrived half an hour earlier before it opened, that didn't matter to much being early as it meant we could walk it first thing. We also had the added luck that as it was Monday we didn't have to pay to get in. We all seemed to have a different idea on what the factory was going to look like, it turns out that where we were was no longer one of the factories at all, but instead it's now a war museum and the factory had been moved to a different location near the end of the war. After the museum the Tim and the Fantastic Five made our way into the old town and headed to the palace where we headed up one of the towers to get a view over the city before making our way back down stairs and heading over to the entrance of the Dragons Den. We walked down a spiral staircase that just seemed to go down for quite sometime. Eventually we reached the bottom, I was expecting just a small cave, but it turns out it was a rather large cave, the added bonus was that it actually led out to the street so we didn't have to worry about taking the stairs back up again. The cave was actually quite cool. From the cave we headed up to the top of where the palace was again and took a look through the cathedral, it was rather nice, while not the most spectacular one I've seen it was still nice to look at. We found an entrance to another tower as well, but we decided we might do that later as we were all fairly hungry. For lunch we made our way back to last nights restaurant, along the way stopping for a snack... Odd that we would get something on the way to lunch, but after last night of being out drinking so late and the breakfast at the hotel just being normal we were all pretty hungry. I decided today to get for lunch something the guys had last night along with a Pepsi, I felt that it was the perfect combo for lunch. We then headed off from lunch and made our way to a few more churches, at this stage we got caught in the rain that started to come down, so the churches made a good bit of shelter during this time. We headed back to Cathedral at the palace and brought tickets to go up the bell tower, these tickets also included an entry into the the Royal tombs so it wasn't just a trip up and down a tower, but a visit to the catacombs as well. We climbed up the bell tower, this tower was unlike any of the towers we had climbed before, this time we had to climb through gaps in the beams and climb over others, I actually really enjoyed this tower a lot more than the others, despite the view not being too impressive because the climbing over beans and through the gaps was so much more different than all the others I've climbed. The bells were very large and you could even touch them, I can only assume that the bells aren't used anymore. From there it was time to head down and check out the Royal tomb. There were a number of coffins in there, including what appeared to be one for a child and another for a baby. Once we finished in the tombs, we headed upstairs and killed some time before heading back to the coach which was picking us up at 5:30. It was back to the hotel for us to get some rest before dinner, although there was a request from a few people to get a certain episode that had just been released. So I spent the next few minutes queuing that up before jumping into the shower. We had dinner and then I headed over to the mall to buy a new day pack as my existing one is beginning to fall apart and things over here seem to be far better prices than they are back in NZ. The mall was huge, to give you some kind of idea, the supermarket was over 80 isles long, one isle dedicated completely to Vodka, and several more isles of alcohol. Conner decided to get a 9.5km Watermelon for some reason. After returning to the hotel I finished off the show that the guys wanted and then headed off to bed.
