We are now in Siem Reap, the home of Ankor Wat .I wont bore you with the history. its One of the biggest religious sights in the world and it looks like something straight out of Idiana Jones and the temple of doom! actually some scenes in Tomb Raider were filmed there.
I will get to Ankor wat in a min. Firstly we had to get a bus from Phnom Penh. It trned up and it was a really nce luxury bus, until it got started and they put Cambodian Karaoke on all the tvs and over the speakers. I wuldnt of minded if they but english subtitles up aswell, atleast then i could of joined in! so for 6 hours me and kris had to listen to the old wqomn sitting behind us singing these GREAT songs for the whole way. When we stopped for lunch the little kids behind us were stuffing their faces ( i knew it was all going to end in tears) as soon as the bus started moving again, the kids were sick right in the aisle. so we had a lovely smell and cambodian Karaoke for the rest of the journey. It reminded me of the time me and Marc were on our way to Bournemouth, and i was stuffing my face with my packlunch before we even left Folkestone, Bad mistake before we were even on the Motorway i was sick over the women infronts hair, myself and Marc. for the rest of the trip i stayed in the coach's toilet, poor Marc had to sit out there covered in sick with a fuming women infront of him. (sorry Bruv)
We arrived in Siem Reap, we were met by a hostels Tuk tuk driver and taken there. His name was Lucky and he spoke really good English. The hostel was fine a bit hot though because we are on a budget we cant afford rooms with air con, so i had a word with the manager and he went out and got us a fan, so its better and for $6 a night you cant moan.
We hired Lucky and his Tuk tuk for the next day to take us to Ankor Wat and the surrounding area whichis also full of massive temples and ruins.Normally everyone goes to Ankor Wat first but lucky took us the other way so it wouldnt be as busy. Our first stop of the Day was Ta Phohm this is where they filmed Tomb Raider, it was really good there and abit like a maze walking around it, also it looks like the Jungle is trying to claim it back with all trees growing out of it, it looks like something from a lost civilisation. Outside the grounds there was a band playing traditional Camobodian music and every member had been injured by land mines it was very sad.
Our next stop was Baphoun, the main part is a massive construction with clmb at your own risk signs all over it. Kris stayed the bottom in the shade and i climbed to the top. it was hard going and i was sweating loads but it was worth it because of the good view up the top. Then we went to Bayon which has got hundreds of faces carved in the stone. So you think your being watched the whole time your there.
After this we had a derserved break. Then off to Ankor Wat we were abit templed and ruined out but it still Blew me away. its huge with a massive moat all the way around. so we had abit of time here to walk around and take photos. It was a really good day but we were knackered by the end as walking around ruins in the boiling heat does take it out of you.
For dinner we went to a restraurant called the Blue Pumpkin, upstairs it has a chill out lounge with massive sofas that you can lay on with you table on it next to you and really good air con so its a good place to cool dowN, and its got great food too. When we go in there we dont want to leave. we take our books and just chill out its great.
Last night we went out for a drink in a place called Dead Fish (nice name). Outside it has a sign saying we do not serve Monkey, Cat, Dog or worm (good for them). On my way to the toilet i had to walk on a bridge over a crocodile pit!! it had about 10 crocs in there, me and kris payed a $1 and got to throw some fish down there for them (thats prob why this place is called Dead fish)
All the massage places are called seeing hands because they are done by blind people, i havent tried it yet. Also the streets are packed with kids selling postcards you cant sit outside a pub without being asked 20 times if you want a postcard. One young lad asked me where i was from, when i told him England he reeled off all this knowledge about england, saying theres 65 million people live there, the Capital is London, the prime mininster is Tony Blair and other bits of information. Ask a young kid at home about Cambodia and see what they say. But now me and kris play a game with the kds saying we are from Italy, France or Canada and the kids still come out with stuff about that country.
On our last night we went out for a happy herb pizza it didnt do anything though on the way home we went for a drink and then there was a massive power cut so we had to leave and walk back to the guesthouse in the dark. It was really weird and every shop had candles out well quick i think they must be used to it! we got back to our room and i was sitting there sweating my arse off because we couldnt use the fan, and we just had a game of cards by candle light. After about an hour and a half they power came back on so we forgot the cvards and put the tv on!
