We helped Glendon celebrate his 41st birthday last night with around 20 of his friends, neighbours and of course .. us. This morning we farewelled Glendon and Jacinda and headed off south to the canyons. It was a good long drive with a late picnic lunch at Panguitch and arrival at Bryce Canyon just after 3pm.
Bryce Canyon is an amazing place with 'hoodoos' or weathered stone shaped like spires. There are also layers of white and red stone. You drive along the top of the ridge and look down at the valley. The last lookout point is just under 2800 meters high (9115 feet). There are plenty of walks but we only had time to drive to each lookout point whic is what 99% of the other folk do.
Tonight and tomorrow night we are staying at Mount Carmel Junction which is handy to Bryce and Zion Canyons. Tomorrow we head for Zion Canyon.
Weather is somewhat variable. Coming across the prairies and plains we had high temperatures of up to 40 celcius. Yellowstone ranged from cold one day to warm the next. We had a storm in SLC that dropped temperatures from high to low (just like Melbourne). Today was cool to mild, tomorrow is expected to reach mid 30's celcius in Zion Canyon. Good job we brought layered clothing.
