Day 19. 17/9/2018
The Blue cave then off to Island Vis
The motor starts right on the predicted time of 6.00, the boat shakes and you know we are on our way the a popular tourist destination called the Blue Cave The early start is to allow us the chance to get to see it before the hoards , and we can tell by the speed of the boat that the Captain is making every post a winner. Two hour pass and we are there and already the crowd is gathering at this little Island , in the middle of nowhere. We have achieved our gold and in less the half and hour there are twelve of the group loaded onto a small putt putt boat and whisked away on a five minute ride to the cave ,five minutes inside the cave, then whisked back to the boat that is now anchored just a 100 metres from the entrance.
Going into the cave everybody has to sit on the floor, keeping your head as lower as possible , but once inside the reason for being there is quite apparent. The marvel of this jewel of the is sea is breath taking ,and it name stands out by the different shades of blue of the water . The depth of the sea water is 16 metres ,the size of the caves about 6 x12 metres and the height is 5 metres, all made from sandstone million of years ago. It was only discovered in the the early 1920s.
Back on board everyone is excited by what they have seen and now the excitement turn to our next destination the Island of Vis and the fact the captain has planned another swim stop along the way.An hour has past ,the motor slows ,everyone is ready as by now this is one of the pleasurable things we look forward to. There is no hesitation , one in all in and again Shirley is in ,quick as a flash ,my eyes can’t believe what they are seeing ,two days in row Shirley in the water hair wet an all. I missed the photo so if she makes it three days in a row the photo will be the cover photo of the next blog for all to see.
We swim for over an hour, then continue to the island but lunch is scheduled for 1.30 and what a lunch, Cuttlefish Risotto starter ,main grilled Sea bass, desert, fruit tart with Ice Cream ,all so delicious. We arrive at Vis at 3.30 pm and I am sound asleep ,was awake at 3 in the morning today and it has caught up with me after the swim and lunch and the glass of beer after the swim and the red wine for lunch.
I come out my cabin and the boat is docking , we’re informed that we can do this or that, but Shirley and I have other plans, we are to do our normal exercise of walking while looking for a restaurant called Konoba Lola. This Island is slightly different but the history is the same ,the Greek invaded first then the Romans, followed by the Venisons, again they did this as they all wanted it for its deep water for their ships .This the Island where the movie Muma MIA was filmed, if that something you might like to know. During our seek and fine walk we were able to find Konoba Lola plus a little pizza place that sold the islands wine, so this was a perfect time to kill two birds with one stone. Sample the wine and continue the tradition, both were completed.
We had booked the restaurant for seven and when we enter it was dark but the restaurant which is set in a garden which was lite but not over done but placed so no one would be in the dark, mainly small light , I hope the picture show what we saw. After the big lunch we just though a tapestry style meal would suffice so we order Crevice and potatoes chip type dish ,they we magnificent. The cervice was perfect , cooked in lemon juice ,the flavours radiated through the taste buds, the potatoes were firm not mushy with a sauce which had a little spice ,just right, it was a meal that I will be able to describe over and over and over. A casual walk back to the boat ,a chat with other guest , a cup of coffee and now it time to sleep. This where I end this fantastic day of adventures and wish you well
Love John and Shirley
