Our day in Cabo San Lucas started with a quick journey in the lifeboats to reach the port because the docks are too small for the Queen Elizabeth. The weather was perfect, sunny bright and warm with a lovely cooling breeze, it's a prime holiday destination for the Mexicans and Californians.
We headed by coach to San Jose, a small picturesque village with an old church and town square, we had chance to do a little souvenir shopping. Our next stop was the Cacti Mundo, which is the cactus botanical gardens with over 750 different kinds.
The lunch break was at a cliff top restaurant with fantastic views of the bay before our final stop at the glass blowing factory where we saw local craftsmen make glass ornaments right before our eyes.
We only had a half day in Cabo San Lucas, we don't really know why, it was something to do with the tides, we would have loved to have spent more time there.
Back on board we met the chef, Nicholas Oldroyd from Bridlington, East Yorkshire, a Yorkshireman, no wonder the food is good! We had a galley tour of our Britannia Restaurant, it's a super streamlined kitchen with military precision, here's the facts they gave us: Every week the ship consumes: 35 tonnes of fruit and vegetables; 2500 dozen eggs; 3 tonnes of sugar; 8 tonnes of flour; 4000 pints of beer; 6000 scones and 35000 cups of tea!
Our behind the scenes day also included the Back Stage Tour of the Royal Court Theatre Group. We met the dancers, actors and everyone involved in the productions, it was very informative and we got to see all the costumes and the make up rooms.
For dinner tonight we had the pleasure of eating on the Officers table with another 15 of the friends we have met on Queen Elizabeth (all ting ting!), some of them leave here on Saturday in Los Angeles, so we will miss them but also we get a new bunch (750 actually) of shipmates too!
