Another fantastic day off the ship, we have never visited Costa Rica before, but sure we'll be back for a holiday one day. Limon is the port on the side of the Caribbean sea and whilst it's not the prettiest town, it's busy with its cargo of coffee and bananas.
Our excursion today was titled "Trains, Canals and Countryside", we headed by coach with our super informative guide Roberto, he was so proud of his country and heritage, to the canal boat to take us through the rain forest, once onboard we were treated to views of many birds, sloths, iguana, monkeys and Jesus Christ lizards.
We met our narrow gauge train that travels on the old United Fruit Company railroad, the coffee line, it was great to have all the windows open and get a lovely refreshing breeze to spare us from the humidity and 30 degree heat. The railway line travels right alongside the open sea almost on the beach and is dated from 1890, the carriages were over 60 years old and bone shakers.
After the train we headed to the Del Monte banana plantation to see the bananas being processed and packed to travel off in all directions around the world. Just like us!
Early night tonight, we arrive at the Panama Canal at 6 am on Saturday morning and it will take all day to pass through it, but we want to view it at the start. The temperature is set to be 40 degrees!
On Saturday we will be going through the Panama Canal this will be between 12 noon and 10 pm UK time, it takes that long! You can click on the web cam of the Queen Elizabeth to see where we are http://www.cunard.co.uk/Ships/Queen-Elizabeth/Bridge-Web-Cam/ or at about 1 pm and 9 pm you can view the canal web cams to see Queen Elizabeth www.pancanal.com/eng/photo/camera-java.html Let us know if you manage to see our ship!

Barbara & Al It is Saturday, Jan 22 at 3:30 p.m. & we are watching the Queen Elizabeth pass through the Panama Canal at this very moment. We can see all the people out on the decks & can just feel the excitement. Wait a minute - there you are - we can see you waving & are waving back! Did you see us? That's us sitting in our kitchen in Orlando wearing the Mickey Mouse shirts :-) Hope you are having a wonderful time. Miss you & love you!
