Going loco down in Acapulco, definitely is the case especially if you are crazy enough to drive here, the traffic is manic and everyone is a rally driver!
Acapulco is a beautiful tourist resort, right on the beach, with the hotels one side and the town on the other, it's a Mexican Benidorm, with busy crowds and heat. Our morning excursion took us to see a local folklore show and the famous cliff divers, handsome young guys that jump from the cliff edge into the shallow pools below, truly a highlight of old Acapulco and definitely worth the few dollars tip to tuck into their trunks!
We headed through the town on our city tour and we had plenty of time to soak up the sights from our coach because the traffic only crawls through. We stopped at some spectacular viewing points for photographs, including the Black Lagoon, where Tarzan was originally filmed, before we were dropped off at the old downtown to view the 200 year old Cathedral and the Spanish Fort. The fort had great views of our ship and the bay and had an excellent gift shop, run by Felix who was very friendly (ting ting!).
For a little shopping, we just had to go into Woolworths and they had a C&A, it was just like going back in time and also to have a taxi ride back to our ship in an old VW Beetle taxi, they are everywhere. The Acapulco branch of JBP was also a highlight, Imprenta San Jeronimo, their logo was S&J Printers, indeed!
It's a sunbathing day at sea on Wednesday before our next stop at Cabo San Lucas on Thursday, followed by Los Angeles on Saturday to complete our East to West USA sector.
