It's taken us 103 nights and just over 46,000 miles to complete our around the world voyage and we have enjoyed all the destinations, the experiences and the wonderful people we have shared that journey with. We have been to Barcelona for a week a few years ago so we had no intention of running around and seeing all the sights, but instead we had planned a leisurely day with a nice lunch, with our friends Nick and Sue. We knew that we would enjoy Monte Carlo, well it's the home of the rich and famous after all! We were suprised how developed the area is and the many high rise apartments that covered this area of the French Riviera. The Monaco Tours land train was waiting for us at the port and took us around Monaco and Monte Carlo. We headed along the road that makes up the Grand Prix track and port area, the seating was under construction for the race in about a months time...

Our arrival at Civitavecchia was delayed because of the rough seas and even our big ship couldn't get close to the port until the wind calmed down. Almost two hours late we managed to dock and our adventure to Rome could begin. Our guide Santi gave us maps and offered suggestions for our "Rome on your own" trip that we had booked. On our way to Civitavecchia we passed closely to the coasts of Italy and Sicily. We could see Mount Etna with snow on the top. Around 6 pm we met with the Queen Elizabeth on the way past the volcanic island of Stromboli. The volcano was very impressive and is still active, there are a few villages still perched on its sides and we could see the smoke coming from the top.
