So, as promised to MUm, I vivsted the island that her school brought a fishing boat for after the Tsunami. The boats to and from the island had only started running the previous week, so as I'm sure you can imagine things were very slow. I stayed in an amazing family-run resort right on the beach in a small hut for a mere 150bhat (2pounds) a night...needless to say you didn't get much for you money. This also was the first time that I'd actually been on my own pretty much since Kanchanabrui, but it was quite nice not to have to talk to people, and to be selfish for a while! The first day was spent chillin on the beach and wondering around my surroundings. The next day I got dropped in the 'town' which consisted of very little except a some tatty tourist shops, travel agents and 7-elevens! As I walked back, some along the road, some by the beach, you could see that the people here were working so hard to rebuild what was so harshly taken from them. Unlike PhiPhi the tourists don't flock here. It's quite rural and less idilic, but still beautiful all the same with amazing land-scape!
10/10 - Boat trip to Emerald Caves
Today was a snorkling boat-trip, including some caves. Teh snrokling was good, but not reall ywhat I went for. When we got to the cave to protocall was this...stay close to the group, follow the light from the guide and stay right. As you approach it it just seems like a normal swim, but within 10m it is completely pitch black, and gives you that eery excited feeling. We continued our way through the 80m of pitch black hole to open out into the most amazing place - a completely secluded beach/island surrrounded by rocks as high as you can see! (When the Tsunami hit 28people were trapped here for 4days!) The cave used to be used by pirates for storing all their treasure! It's one of those places that starts as a secret, and you hope wont become destroyed or taken over by tourism, however seeing as it is stuck in the middle of the ocean and took a good 1hr 1/2 to get to off the south of Ko Lanta, I think it'll be safe for a while longer!
