An early morning ferry gave us a beautiful crossing through the National Park of hundreds of dotted islands. A bus ride followed by another by another boat (are you feeling my love for public transport still!) and we arrive on Phi Phi I couldn't help but just look and only imagine a snippet of what the people must have gone through with the Tsumami with absolutely no escape! However, landing on the island was nothing how I imagined...redevelopment seems to be going on at an immense rate to create a 'modern holiday' destination rather than keeping the authenticity of the place...a lot of these islands will b ruined in the next 5yrs by tourism!
The next day was the day I've been looking forward to the most of my trip so far - Phi Phi Leh (The Beach). The long-tail took us past caves where they collect the nests for 'Bird's Nest Soup' (ironically we watched a programme on it that morning!) then on to a beautiful pool where we swam. We drove round to the next bay...Mission: get through the hole in the rocks! As you approach the rocks you grab the ropes and guide yourself along the rocks. I felt like Indiana Jones as I watched and judged the waves before surfing it through the hole, before the next wave crashed you against the rocks! A short walk through a forest opened out into unbelievable turquoise water and white sands...amazing!! A brilliant day was followed by a beautiful evening! We hiked up to the view point and sat and watched the sunset on endless views of water and islands! A detoured stop on the way back to the hotel saw af ew sneaky cocktails, before partying the night away at yet an other 1/2 moon party (these seem to happen whenever there is any moon, regardless of its size!), all good fun though!
