Ok in Guadalajara now... In A very good hostel. This town is huge, 5 M people, but very cool. Probably sticking around for a day or so. Meeting a friend who is actually going to medical school here.
Went up to la Paz to get the ferry booked for what I thought would be about a week out trip.,.nope same day(Sunday) boarding in one hour. So we took it. Met a fisherman on the boat and discussed the relative safety of mainland Mexico. Es tranquilo en el dia. No driving at night. Ever. The patrols stop at night on the coutas so it becomes a bit of a bandito free for all.
Everything I have seen so far is really cool. No danger feel at all. Especially in Guadalajara which surprised me.
Actually Guadalajara is the most together city I have been to in mexico. It really makes Los cabos look more like a Mexican version of the burning man festival complete with satirical American amusements.
Seems to be A much stronger spanish influence here. Every one is sharply dressed, and I really haven't encountered any of the typical scammy tourist bs. Also the state of cleanliness of my truck commands disdain and dismissal, which i approve of. The street art scene is extremely healthy here too, in a good way.
Ended up giving the pescador a ride to guadalajara, where he caught another bus south, we may see him again when we pass through his town.
Boardshorts are quite funky now. Hand soap and a sink fixed them though.
Heading to Coloma tomorrow for the swell. Probably return to Guadalajara or nearby for the upcoming Mexican independence day...which is a party not to be missed I am Told.

ma monson Hey- Get on this thing the second you get to wifi. Your readers ( especially your ma and pa) need to know you are alive. Hope the surf was up at the beach and the travel there and back was full of adventure but not too much danger!
