Escaped Guadalajara after eating way too much of that gordibuena, which is basically a grilled gordita with incredible cheese and incredible steak on top. Gordibuena is the perfect description actually. Their other specialty was tacos which were called gringas or... White girls.
Shoved off to the coast early stayed in a pretty nice hotel in cuyutlan. Hotel Morelos. $20 room and two meals. The chef was pretty much the gay guy from mad men, and the waiter/front desk guy was.... Quite gay as well. The place was immaculate and the food was damn good too. I don't usually start dinner with a grilled plantane soaked on honey, but I am going to start.
The morning was much less ummm predictable. We went to bed a little early with the intent of rising early to check the surf, however we found the gate to our upstairs room had been chained shut...with exception of jumping off the patio into the street below we were effectively contained in our quarters. The proprietor, in a fresh and brightly colored shirt, freed us about 9 am.
Surf sucked.
As we ate breakfast, our second included meal, we heard a pretty loud crash from what sounded like the kitchen.. No such luck, we were motioned to the street to find a some one had rear ended our truck... On the deserted street of the ghost town we were staying in. Que mala suerte
I do not know what his truck looked like before. Beat to hell is likely. But this was not an improvement as his radiator was now punctured. Few dings on the the Toyota and a broken micra.. Signal cover.
After explaining that he had no money, but that he would get it, and that if he were a bad person he would have just left the scene... We agreed to following him to his work in a nearby city to get some money to fix the truck.
We followed him for about 3 miles before his truck overheated and died. As we waited for it to cool down on the side of the road they decided it would be a good time to light up a joint.. After all they probably weren't going to make it up work now anyway... Or maybe work had no bearing at all on life decisions.
The truck wouldnt restart so we gave him a ride all over town as he looked for the light cover and body shop that could help..... Long story shorter, we got about 50$ out of him and paid another 100 to get the truck fixed. He disappeared along the way, but did get us all set up with parts and repairs...We drove around with him for about three hours speaking in broken Spanish. Then at the very end at the parts store (Yonke "el junior") el junior, who spoke English, told us the the kid who hit the car said he didn't understand a single thing I said to him all day... that hurt the worst.... although it was a burn on some gringos... It could have been much worse.
Finally got to surf at la ticla, which blew my gd mind.... Huuuuge surf, 5 other surfers in a palm tree jungle beach. Food was damn good too. Rented a cabana for 10$, our neighbors are 3 Israelis, an Australian and some Germans, and about 15 roosters, who have no concept of dawn.
There is only now! c*** a doooodle dooooo. All night.
Could be here for a while still.
Some how managed to lose my drivers license at the hostel in Guadalajara. Ironically the only thing i have used it for Was the hostel billiards... And i lost it. Fake ids from mow on. This is not all bad though, as we got an invitation to an independence day celebration in tepalpa from one of the hostel employees. Tepalpa is a mountain town about 2 hours back towards Guadalajara... Planning to retrieve the Id from one of hostel employees there. Party is tomorrow so look for us in la ticla today and tomorrow and tepalpa tomorrow night.
Have run into tons of people who just upped and came here.. No plans no schedules, pretty similar to my own agenda... Definitely easy to lose yourself in the land of mongrel dogs and kids... Nothing but kids and dogs as far as the eye can see.
Ciuda tu vida mi amigos y familia,
Joe
