Made it to Baja asuncion after a long 400 mile burn from cuatro casas. Staying at campo Serena which is owned and operated by a Canadian woman who moved here to study grey whales, and her husband juan who is a local fisherman. Surf is supposed to be up around here to tomorrow, so I'm planning to poke around between here and abreojos for a few days.

Met some very good people so far: here are the highlights

Met a very nice American lady and her husband by cuatros casas, ironically she was worried about her son who was working a lifeguard job in Huntington while she was traveling through Mexico. Sorry mom, but apparently our respective locations have no effect on parental anxiety. Please know that I seem to be safe and I am happy.

Sand man mike is an Australian sandcastle builder I have been hanging around with who recommended I stay here in asuncion. I first met him about 3 months ago in Baja. Since then he has bought a car toured all of Baja crossed over to the mainland and visited Guatemala. The car is a jeep Cherokee. All 5 freeze plugs in the engine have deteriorated to the point that the engine is no longer water tight, however with enough putty and in on case a branch with more putty, the vehicle is road worthy. There is also a fence post welded to the exhaust...for extra rigidity.
At some point in mikes trip the engine sprung a leak and stranded him in the desert. Through some bajaesque twist of fate he acquired the services of a wayward mechanic who set about puttying the engine block. Mike drank two beers, and then found the mechanic asleep under the truck. No word on the putty.

Dave is an LA surfer I met along the way, we had an interesting conversation with sand man mike about his prospects in getting a prehistoric shark tooth he found through customs. It was suggested that mike put it up his ass, mike declined which goes to show, If you aren't willing to offer an item rectal passage through customs, then it probably isn't that cool.
