We arrived in Puerto Madryn after another long day of driving and seeing very little. We had learned to thrive off the only out of bus communication we received with the real locals at the petrols station. I have never before seen a people so interested in a truck. Everywhere we went people turned there heads as if a bugatti had just gone past.
We had spend the last couple of nights 'fee camping'. Which basically means drive until it gets dark and then pull up at a service station, camp nearby and use the service station for its toilet facilities. Oh the glamour of travel.
Puerto Madryn was a sleepy, but fairly large town /port. Whilst we camped in a campsite (luxury) with 24hour hot water, about 10 minutes from the town, the town wasnt really the main attraction. We awoke early on the 17th and began our day trip to the valdes peninsula. A national park that houses penguin and sealine colonies year round and Orcas (killer whales) seasonally. We were there at the tail end of the season and though there was only a slim chance of seeing them, amazingly we saw one! But then established that it was a rock and so really saw nothing. In season they actually surf onto the beach to eat the seals. I would have been cool to see but it was still a nice break from the relentless driving. We ended the day when into the town for a bit and then returned to cook dinner and get a decent night sleep. The next 3 days were going to be the most difficult in terms of driving. Unfortunately our camp site was located a little to close to a drum and base rave at the beach and so our sleep was limited when the party began at 4am.
