Leisure breakfast at Happy's Place where we ate outside. Connor had egg, fruit, cereal, choc milk, and then Nan let him have a donut. We gotta put some meat on his bones.
Boarded the tour bus to Pearl Harbor at 9 AM. Fantastic tour - well organized and expertly conducted by Bill. Toured the museum which traced the buildup to war in the 1930s and we watched a great film on the attack. I bought the video. Next we hopped on the US Navy boat for the short ride to the Arizona Memorial where 1170 sailors are still entombed. Oil is still seeping from the ship. The names are listed on the wall. It is possible for survivors to be buried inside the Arizona.
Bill took us to the US Missouri battleship - Big Mo. The WWII surrender by the Japanese was signed on the deck in September 1945.
On the way back Bill took us thru the old part of Honolulu, where we saw old government buildings and a statue of the king who united the islands in the late 1700s.
Our evening meal was the Hale Koa luau. Lots of beef, pork, chicken and Hawaiian veggies. We also tried poi, which comes from the root of some plant. Looks purple but has little taste. Dinner was followed by a show featuring Polynesian singers and dancers.
We had a good day. Tomorrow we climb Diamond Head and maybe go to the beach.
