Whitneys on Tour
After finishing our war tunnels trip in Saigon we headed out of the city on an evening bus to the beach town of Mui Ne, arriving a little bleary eyed at nearly 1am on 24th May.
Mui Ne has only been developed as a beach resort over the last few years so it's not overly touristy and as it's low season it's really quiet. After a couple of nights on the north end of the beach we found an excellent place on the more sandy, southern part of the beach for just $14 a night.
It's a lovely place, as nice a beach resort as we've come across on the entire trip. There's virtually no-one on the beach itself, the water is lovely and the sea front has been developed very tastefully. The resort places have been built a little way back from the beach and so are camoflaged by the trees. This is unlike in Ko Chang say, where they are rather in your face and have consequently spoilit the beach view.
The areas charms are not just limited to the beach. We took a half day trip to visit some huge sand dunes, plus a canyon and best of all something called The Fairy Stream. This was a very shallow stream which you could walk around 1km up and which was surrounded by very attractive rock and sand formations. A very pretty place and a nice day out if only marginally spoilt by the unwanted attentions of the local children who just hang around you for money. You want to swat the little buggars even though they are only doing what they are told.
We left on the 27th for Dalat.
