Another fun filled speed boat ride later and we had arrived in Au Nang (Krabi)..... a crash back down to earth when we checked into our hostel but we were very happy to discover we had full use of the 5* resort facilities located in the hotel next to us....... this at least stopped a cold turkey reaction from Jo!
Krabi is much nicer than Phuket with lots of white sandy beaches and a more couple / family atmosphere..... we decided to rent a motorbike again as we had so much fun with one on Yao Noi, off we went exploring the area along little dirt roads away from the main tourist spots...... this is where we came across an elephant trekking centre, well a clearing in the Jungle with several elephants would describe it better! After a quick negotiation process we were happy to part with 500 baht each for a 1 hour private trek through the jungle. We absolutely loved it, up and down steep hills ducking to avoid the branches that could knock us to the ground.... we even got to ride on the neck, somehow I think our travel insurance did not cover us!
After lots of photos and Jo feeding the elephant a small towns supply of bananas off we went in search of the tiger temple which had been recommended to us by a rather oddly dressed chap from Ko Phi Phi (picture Mr Motivator).... we ended up riding by it and taking a 30 minute detour into the hills, turned out to be funny though! When we finally arrived it was just in time to see the dozens of monkeys (wild and free) being fed, the man who thought it would be a good idea to buy three corn on the cobs realised his error when 30 of them charged at him making unpleasant noises.... he quickly dropped them and ran!
We had been told about the steps you had to climb to reach the temple at the top of the mountain and thought nothing of it when we read the sign stating 1237 steps to be precise....... although 400 steps later we found vertical ladder would better describe what we were climbing, Jo gave up at 600 and let me continue my gym session alone.... the sight of people returning from the top did not paint a pretty picture although when I reached it I was suitably blown away by the views across Thailand, even if I could hardly breathe! Going down was no better as your calf's are burning and shaking from the self inflicted torture of going up!
The next couple of days were spent chilling around the deserted pool..... very nice and relaxing, we were sad to be leaving for Bangkok.
