Singapore is very nice, one of the cleanest places you will ever visit….. we landed at about 6.20pm and headed for the MRT with our directions to the hostel printed in our hands, three trains were needed and the instructions looked confusing but once our ticket was purchased for a total of about 40p for all 3 journeys we found the underground is the easiest we have ever used and were at the Hive hostel reception less than 20 minutes later.
After 3 weeks, living, eating and sleeping in the back of a Toyota campervan a room of our own was like a dream and we immediately felt comfortable, just a 5 minute walk away was Little India which is a total culture shock…. you could actually believe you were in Delhi not Singapore! We had an amazing curry for dinner but decided on a restaurant that had forks…. many didn’t and you could see all the locals enjoying their chicken korma with their fingers.
Several days of sight seeing followed including temples in China Town, Jo dived straight in there lighting incense sticks and humming / praying with the monks!?? We also saw the world famous Raffles Hotel, Merlion Park and of course plenty of pictures of the Singapore skyline where we watched a night concert by the river.
On our last day we took a walk to Tanjong Pagar train station to purchase our first sleeper train tickets for that evening departing at 10pm to Kuala Lumpur…. Exciting!
