Sorry I haven’t been posting. Internet is scarce here. That also means that photos probably won’t be up until I get into port and can get to a cyber café…
We are on day 6…or on the ship known as C4 (class day 4). We are all settling into our routines which I hate to admit kinda sucks. The biggest issue is we have class 8 days in a row and the same classes every day. It just makes homework and reading etc much more stressful. I am just exhausted. You don’t really sleep on SAS. Its funny because I find there really isn’t much to do yet we stay up late doing it. The people have created somewhat of cliques and due to the ratio (30% boys 70% girls) its hard to find good guy friends once you weed out the bad ones. This is somewhat disconcerting because I really want to travel with boys if for nothing else safety. It’s just hard to break into other cliques. I have met one guy, Robert, we might be traveling with but it just hard with everyone’s FDPs to work around. The ship is amazing though. Get up for breakfast, go to a couple classes, go to the gym, shower, eat lunch, sun bathe/ study, catch up on emails, go to an amazing acting class, study a little bit/hang out in my room/ on the deck, dinner then more hanging out. Hard life right?
The ship itself is also beautiful. There so many nooks and crannies that I am sure I haven’t even been to before but the ship is getting smaller. A couple nights ago I found what I think will become my favorite spot on the ship. The front deck is awesome at night. I haven’t been there in the day yet but I am sure it is just gorgeous. At night the stars are just out and clear because the ship is literally the only light pollution out here. In my acting class my homework has been to slow down and notice detail and “enjoy the journey” and that what I am trying to do. I would be lying if is said it’s not hard to complain about the ship but altogether I remember that I am in the middle of the ocean with some really amazing people.
Earlier I spoke about my acting class and I have to tell you all it is one of my favorite parts of the day so far. My teacher’s name is Drew Kahn, he also went to SDSU and knows the Peter (I have to remember to tell him that Drew was in a show Peter directed maybe Peter’s first year at State). I am waiting to talk with him about after college. When I told him I wanted to have a meal with him he responded with, “You know what I am going to ask you right?” and I knew he was going to ask “What do I want?”. And oh man. What a loaded question. I’m not really sure. But that’s why I am on this voyage right?
“A ship doesn’t just carry people, it carried ideas.” – one of the plaques in one of the stairwells on the ship.
