Today was the first day in Italy. Honestly, Naples is kind of a dirty city. The first thing I did was go to Pompeii and Herculaneum. The city was awesome! I cannot believe how well preserved the cities were. It's just amazing to step into the city exactly how it would have been for the Romans. They had such advanced technology! The sewer system, running water, walkways…all phenomenal. Not to mention the artwork. The mosaics, pottery, and paintings on the walls were all magnificent. In Pompeii we also saw some of the plaster bodies of men, women, and a dog. It was so haunting. The people were grasping their mouths and huddling together to avoid the gas and pyroclastic flow. Can you even imagine seeing Mount Vesuvius explode and feel the ash and pumice falling on your head? Crazy to imagine what those people must have been thinking.
After Pompeii and Herculaneum I headed home, took a nap then it was time to get me some PIZZA! Jordan and I walked around Naples, a dirty city that kind of looked and felt similar to the dirty part of San Francisco, until we found a little pizza place. I got a pizza with mozzarella, ricotta, and bacon. Absolutely amazing! It was only 6 euros and about the size of a basketball hoop. So DELICIOUS!!! WE ate about half of it but it was so worth it. Don't judge me if I come back to the states fat haha. No, no, no I have been walking around and trying to hit the gym as much as possible. Hopefully all this Italian food won't get to me. I must say though there is nothing like eating pizza in Napels!

Dad The book you and Jennica gave me for Father's day has a whole section about Pompeii. I will show it to you when you get home.
