Ciao Italia!!!!
Venice! First of all Venice is the most beautiful place in the entire world. I could wander around there for months and just get lost in the beauty. Getting there was an adventure! We went to Sorrento for the day and it was just lovely. Little side streets and adorable shops. The only downside was that it was a little bit touristy. Then the adventure of the night train began! We get to the train station and the first thing we see next to our train number is Cancello. Clearly none of us speak Italian nor we know our Italian geography very well because we freaked out! We thought our train was cancelled and we would have to catch something in the morning which would just ruin our entire itinerary. After some troublesome discussion with some locals and us pantomiming our way through we discovered that Cancello is a city in Italy. Go figure! …but our train was over an hour late…so the boys in our group, Shane and Rob, decided that they wanted to get something to drink for the train ride. So Katie, Shane and I headed to a liquor store. Now let me just say that even though I was in Italy $3.00 wine is still $3.00 wine. And we bought 2 bottles between the 6 of us. We are also told to try Grappa, which is local liquor. I only had a little sip but it was probably the worst thing I have EVER tasted. Sleeping on the train wasn't bad either. We had 2 cabins, four in on and 2 in the other, and the beds were relatively comfortable. (by the way….yes we did feel like we were on our way to Hogwarts).
Once we finally made it to Venice we searched for a hostel. We ended up finding a little one star hotel which was cheaper than the hostel and then made our way through Venice. I have already said it was beautiful but that is an understatement. It is jaw dropping. I wish my vocabulary could describe the beauty…pictures don't even really capture it. We went on a gondola ride which was also amazing. They are soooooo skilled. They can weave in and out of the tiny side canals. Oh ya…for those of you who didn't know…Venice is the city with no cars just all waterways. Amazing! (that's for all you Little Women folk reading this :D)
