So this past week has been insanely busy. Mike and I finished booking our flights and got most of our hostels booked. Thursday night we went out to Demo again, which is the bar we went to last weekend on Calle Betis. It's really fun there. The music is pretty good, the drinks are reasonable, and the music is pretty decent. We went for the We Love Spain party and got in for free and also got a free mixed drink, which usually cost about 5 euros. Then Kaitlynn came over to scope out the place and told me that she was at the bar next door with a bunch of the girls. So Mike, Kyle and I finished our drinks and went over there. Everything was 1 euro! I got a sangria and Mike got 2 beers. After staying there for a little bit the whole crowd of us went back to Demo and got another free drink ticket. We had our drinks, danced a lot, then began to walk home. Calle Betis is right across the bridge in Triana so we've started this habit of walking across the bridge to get churros then catching a cab home. The money we save of the distance the cab would drive we spend on churros, but it is definitely a fair trade off haha.
There were 3 hammered drunk Americans standing at the counter eating their churros. So everyone was trying to speak around them to order their churros. One very drunk girl kept trying to start arguments and just was being obnoxious and rude and finally the spanish boy who was with her, her intercambio who told us he was embarrassed to be seen with them, told her that they needed to leave because she was getting out of control. So that was definitely an interesting ending to the night.
Saturday night we went to Cadiz for Carnaval. It was a lot of fun, I just don't think I would want to go back for it ever again. It was very dirty, there were no public bathrooms so people were peeing in the streets. And it was just kind of...not exciting. It was fun to get dressed up and everything but it was basically just a big drinking-fest in a plaza. There was a little bit of music but nothing to special. It was definitely an experience worth having though. We still had a lot of fun, it just didn't live up to all the expectations that I had from what people were telling me about it. I dressed up as a safari hunter. I had originally planned on wearing a dress and I bought a belly dancer skirt to wrap around my waist, but Spain has had another cold front hit and it was going to be way to cold for that. So I had a pair of tan dress pants and a white button up shirt that I wore, and my cheetah print jacket. Then I bought an antique looking revolver and a straw hat similar to the style that the safari people wear and that was my costume. It was really cute, warm, and cheap haha. Mike was a cowboy, Cat was a cat, Kyle was a bear, and the rest of the girls just wore masks with their clothes. I wasn't very cold until around 5 a.m. then it started getting pretty chilly. Our bus was supposed to pick us up at 5:30 but it didn't show up until about 6:15. It was not fun at all waiting. By that point I was cold, tired, and just wanted to get home to a clean bathroom. Finally when the bus came I had a couple bites of my bocadilla then passed out for the rest of the ride. When we got back to Sevilla it was about 8:15 a.m.
When Mike and I had left saturday night we figured that sunday morning we would just walk to the bus station and catch the bus home. But when we actually arrived sunday morning we changed our minds. Cat and Kaitlynn wanted to get a cab and we figured we would go along with them and split the cost since we all live near each other. It only ended up being 1.50 euros each. I got home, showered quick because I felt gross and passed out. I woke up around 2:30 for lunch then got cleaned up. Sunday was Valentines Day so Mike and I wanted to do something, but we were both exhausted and didn't feel like doing a lot. So he came over and we watched a movie on his computer and just hung out for what was left of the day. At around 10 we went to dinner at Foster's Hollywood, which is an "American Restaurant". It wasn't bad, I think they just need a few pointers on some things haha. We both got burgers and then cut them in half and swapped so we each got to try a different kind. I got the Philly burger, which is not what you would expect. It's a burger with Philidelphia cream cheese on it and carmalized onions. It was still very good though. Mike got the BBQ burger which was literally just a burger with a cup of BBQ sauce on the side. Then we got the "Grand American Chocolate Milkshake". False Advertising. It was chocolate milk with whipped cream on top, there was no ice cream anywhere haha. But it was still a night out, which was fun.
We were thinking of going for tapas tonight but since it is downpouring I'm not to sure what will become of that plan. For my Managing Cultural Diversity class we had to pick a topic to research and discuss for our semester long project. I am in a group with Alison and Courtney and we chose Tapas and sharing meals as our topic! We get to go out for tapas as part of our research and also talk to waiters or other people dining. I'm excited to go for tapas as part of my homework haha. Well, I have a bunch of homework and reading to do today so I better get started on that soon. Also I need to skype mom and talk to her as well because I miss her. I get to talk to mom and dad a lot, but it's still pretty hard being away from home for so long. But soon mom will be coming here to visit so I'm counting down the days until then!!
