Actually, I'm back in Sevilla today, but since I was in Granada yesterday I decided to put that as my location. So Thursday afternoon Mike and I rushed to the bus station to catch our bus to Granada. We watched a movie on the way there, then I took a nap for a little bit. When we got there it was pouring rain and of course Mike decided that we should walk to the hostel. With our backpacks, for 40 minutes based on what googlemaps said. Well it was quite an adventure, we got soaked and lost. An hour and a half later we finally made it to the plaza that we had to meet the owner of the hostel at. It was one of the highest points in Granada so yes, I had to climb uphill in the pouring rain for almost that entire hour and a half with my backpack and purse, an umbrella, and my travel guide for Spain! But at least while we were waiting in the Mirador San Nicolas for our host to come we had an absolutely amazing view. It's the number 2 visited sight in all of Granada after the Alhambra. It was gorgeous, we could see the Alhambra and the city and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. So I took a couple pictures while we waited. Our host showed up and took us to our hostel which was only a minute walk away from the Plaza. We stayed at the Flophouse Vegetarian Backpackers Hostel. And it was definitely an interesting place. The owner was certainly high as a kite the whole time we were there and the cleanliness of that place was....questionable. But I guess for 2 nights it worked. I just didn't shower until I got back home haha!
Thursday night Mike and I waited for Cat and the other girls to get to their hostel and then we were going to meet some of them out for dinner and drinks. Cat had an on-line interview so she couldn't come out. Then the other 3 kind of stood us up. They waited until like 11 to tell us they weren't meeting us. By that time Mike and I had just gone out for tapas and dinner anyways because we were sick of waiting. We went to this place Cuadros, which ended up being our favorite bar there because 1) you get a lot of food with each drink and 2) you get to choose what you want as a tapa! So for a big drink and a tapa of your choice it was only 2 euros. So for me, for 6 euros I was stuffed and feeling good. I tried to remember to take pictures of the tapas that we had but they always looked so good when we got them that I kept forgetting.
Friday we went to the Alhambra with Cat, Kaitlin, Quinn, and Kaitlynn. Unfortunately it was raining again. And not just rainy, but foggy too. So we could barely see outside. It really stunk because we couldn't see the views that it is known for or take many pictures. So I had to make a compromise and buy some postcards to make up for the lack of pictures. But I was able to get some great postcards at least. Unfortunately because of the fog, the Alhambra was less than overwhelming. Also it didn't help that Quinn was just whining and complaining the whole time about everything. I was getting so frustrated with her and finally I got to the point where I was just walking away and leaving her behind to catch up because I didn't care anymore. After the Alhambra we went to the Cathedral which was really amazing. It was huge! Not as big as our cathedral in Sevilla but it was big! We wandered around in there for about an hour or so then tried to go to the Royal Chapel but it had an entrance fee and since we weren't really too sure what was even in there we decided to pass on that. Then we split up for a while. Mike and I wandered around for a little bit then went back to the hostel and watched a movie on his computer. The girls went back to their hostel and took naps I guess. We met up at the Mirador San Nicolas at 9:30 and bar hopped for dinner. It was a pretty fun night. ALthough Mike and I definitely realized that we can never travel with Quinn and Kaitlynn again because not only are they the slowest people ever they are also the most indecisive.
Saturday we were supposed to meet up with the girls at 10:30 but we texted them and never heard back from them until almost 12:30. So during the morning during that time that we were waiting for them we wandered around checking out some stuff. There was a moroccan street near our hostel that I wanted to check out for some shopping maybe so we did that. I got some more postcards, some funky earrings, a fan for Aunt Heidi that I think she will love and a star lamp for my room. I also splurged a little and got this great small leather backpack! I think it will work perfectly for other trips to carry my cameras and money and all that because it won't be all the weight on one arm like it is now with my purse. It has a bunch of buckles and straps so it's not easy to break into either so my stuff will be safe. It was something I hadn't planned on getting but I think it will definitely pay off. I bartered with the guy and got it down to 25 euros from 35 euros so that was pretty nice. By the time the day was over we were all definitely ready to get home. We got on the bus and headed for home. Mike and I read for a little bit but once it got dark I napped because my lamp didn't work. I was glad to be back at my Sevilla home!
Today Mike and I watched a movie and then I've just been doing a bunch of little things that needed to be done. I uploaded my pictures onto the computer and edited them so that I can put them on Kodak and get them all sorted so that after Paris I will only have pictures from Paris to worry about doing. I'm soooo excited for Paris! Only 4 days and I will be in the City of Lights!
