My time in Copenhagen had come to an end and it was time to travel westward to the island of Funen where I'd spend some time in Svendborg. I took the DSB (Danish rail service) to Svendborg, which is a quaint town along Funen's south coast. I took a stroll through the pedestrian streets in the town centre. In the middle of town, there's an open area with a fountain and an old church overlooking it.

Today I travelled over to the town of Roskilde. I went down to the Viking Ship Museum, which shows five partially reconstructed viking ships and displays information on the history of the vikings. The museum was, however, rather small and there wasn't much left of the ships that were on display. I then headed up to Roskilde Cathedral. Today, I made my way over to Hillerod, site of Frederiksborg Castle. This is a very picturesque Renaissance castle, surrounded by a lake, and the inside is fairly elaborate. There's lots of detail on Danish history from the Renaissance through to World War II. The weather was quite nice this day and I thus decided to take in a few outdoor attractions. I started off by taking the train to Osterport and made my way to the waterfront and walked by The Little Mermaid (Den Lille Havfrue) statue. Being a Sunday, there wasn't a lot of activity in town, but the mermaid, being a big tourist attraction, drew a large crowd. I took the elevator up the tower, which offers a nice view of Copenhagen, where you can see several landmarks and even all the way to Malmö, Sweden across the Oresund.
