Avoiding a 3 day bus journey, we took a 4 hour flight to Brisbane, or as the locals call it 'Bris-Vegas'!
Jim's Aussie mate Cameron was at the airport bright and early to meet us, along with his adorable one-eyed dog Humphrey. He'd offered to put us up until we'd found our feet so we gratefully accepted.
We arrived to cyclones and flash-flooding which was a bit of a shocker! Thankfully that's calmed down now but it's definitely a lot cooler here after the heat of Asia. We can't moan too much though, it's winter for the next 3 months and still 20-25 degrees during the day, but cold at night. Beats an English winter that's for sure!
So we've had a few nights out, seen a few sights and got to know Brisbane and it's suburbs pretty well so far. Cameron lent us his car (Harry) and we drove up to Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin's) for Jim's birthday last week where we had glorious sunshine. Then for birthday weekend, Cameron and his girlfriend took us camping to Rainbow Beach up the coast near to Frazer Island. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great then but it was good fun being on a deserted beach, cooking around the bush-fire and the boys got to fish too...ofcourse!
We moved in to a lovely apartment this week overlooking Brisbane river just 15 minutes walk from the city centre. It's really plush - & a bargain - and we've got the master suite which is practically an apartment in itself. We're sharing the place with 3 other guys - a laidback Swede, very funny Chilean and a crazy Colombian who is just like Borat! We even have a jacuzzi, sauni, gym and pool downstairs which we've already made good use of.
Jim has started working with Cameron promoting hair salons like he did before in Sydney, and I'm still looking, so fingers crossed something comes up soon. We'll fill you in on our progress shortly but enjoy the photos we've just uploaded.
Bye for now x
