24th April we had a trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels. It was a really interesting place. Its the under-ground network of tunnels that the Viet Cong used to hide from the US army. Jimmy volunteered to go in 1st and after 5 minutes and no sign of him I went in myself!!! The entrance was about 7" x 10" and you have to crawl on your hands and knees, as the tunnel was about 2 foot high and 15" wide, there was no light, no sense of direction, heavy oppressive air and a maze of tunnels - it was REALLY scary! Just as the panic was setting in and thoughts of being lost in the underground maze a dim light lead the way out! What an experience, we cant believe the vietnamese lived down there - 5 minutes was long enough. There were the remains on the B52 bombs and actual traps that the vietnamese used - brutal!! At the end of the place was another shooting range. Jimmy was straight in there for a chance to shoot an AK47 (fully automatic) and an M16!!! I just observed!!!
Well we are back in Phuket! Not the plan at all but hey ho!
We left Ho Chi Minh on 26th April on the 2 minsks and where bound for Mui ne or Phan Thiet. It was going really well but 60km outside the city a pedestrian stepped out in front of me and knocked me off! Luckily he wasnt hurt but I hit him and then the road with my big gob! Smashed my teeth and left them as a souvineer of Karn on the highway outta Ho Chi Minh!!! lol. It could have been ALOT worse. After a nightmare to get to the hospital (usual highway robbers of Vietnam and the awful traffic) the hospital was 150 years behind even Fazakerley A&E - I made a sharp exit and went straight to the airport and headed back to Phuket to get my teeth straightened and fixed - dunno how long my treatment will be yet so just seeing what happens! Will keep you informed, hopefully I can get back to travelling soon. Will post some more pics next time. Take Care.
