We move on again tomorrow and have enjoyed a relaxing time here. Yesterday morning we took a tuk tuk into the local town - it may have been Barricaloa but I'm not really sure. We looked at the local market and shops. The market had the usual fruit and vegetable stalls. It seems that women only sell vegetables and men sell all other things. We also saw the meat and fish sellers, the chicken would have been fresh as they were in cages outside the shop. As usual there was no refrigeration in sight! I have been interested in the baker shops that I have seen. There was a baker's stall here and I bought what looked like donuts - 2 savoury and 2 sweet ones. The four donuts cost me a bit less than $1.
We wandered along the shops, stopping to look at the hardware items on sale and to see the bakers spinning and stretching dough to be cooked in a variety of shapes and with various fillings.
We spent the afternoon by the pool and ate our donuts for lunch. The savoury ones were very tough!
For dinner we had gone to a local restaurant and ordered prawns which were to purchased that day. We had a lovely dinner of prawns in a sauce, fried rice and a salad. It was delicious and only cost us $7.50. There was a beer and wine store next door, we had bought wine a few days ago and Peter has bought a few beers from there. The store has a wire grill at the front and you order what you want through there. Because we didn't know what wine we wanted they let us in.
Today we went for a long walk along the beach after breakfast. There is a large public beach next to our hotel. We walked past this, quiet at this time of day, and in front of some holiday units and hotels. The beach looks nicer here because it doesn't have any rocks under the water. We kept walking to go past some fishing boats and around a point in the hope of finding a port. Alas, the port must be around a few more bends so we turned back. We stopped to look at the hotels and to order our dinner from our new friend Ashok. We were pretty hot by the time we got to his restaurant so enjoyed the fan there before walking back to our hotel. We spent some time at the pool and enjoying the shade under the palm trees before our last dinner at Amaya Resort. Tomorrow we head to Kandy.

Susan I always wonder how I'll do with foreign food. It sounds as if you did well! I probably would have overstocked on delicious baked goods.
