Apologies for the lax nature of the blogging of late, most of you have been holidaying etc... so i didnt think it would matter too much. Also dont have alot of things to really talk about!
Coming up to halfway through my time at camp, so am properly settled in to a routine. Loving each day, especially as its always super hot. On a separate note, on hot days i always go and volunteer to "go find things" in the freezer or fridges for 5 mins, which is a great way to cool off - the freezer especially is -20 celcius.
Bit of a stressed time lately, today is parents and visitors day, so the whole camp had to look perfect, which meant a lot of sweeping, cleaning and mopping in preparation, and culminated in a hellish day today. Started work at 7 and worked through til about 8, with only the odd 15 min break (the longest we got was 30 mins) but it was worth it in the end - the camp directors have thanked us personally, and we got a $500 pay rise!
The pay rise was also due partly to one of our members quitting the week before, so we were basically paid 'hush money' to stay on the job.
So with 2 french girls on the team my translating skills are needed more than ever, which im more than happy to practice.
Spent a lot of time at the lake, they recently put in a rope swing, a trampoline, and we found a tree that you can jump off into the lake, its about the height of a 2nd story window - so 20 ft.
Also been very active in the hockey court - joined in the staff hockey league which has a match every week in a big tournament. Our team is doing pretty well so far - having not lost a game out of 4 (won 2 drew 2.)
Played a great game of hockey with all the kitchen staff too the other day, great fun, absoloutely knackered after 2 hours, but we won in an incredibly close game ( 10 - 9 ) One of the funniest parts was Papi (the crazy old french pastry chef) coming out with his full referee suit on.
Not a huge amount else to update on - most days are spent working, and when im not working im asleep or by the lake, getting steadily more tanned, which will be great for arriving back to the uk in sept.
Looking forward to my birthday - coming up in 8 days! Will be sad to be finally 19, makes me feel much older than i want to be. On the plus side i will then be legal to drink in Canada, and the camp offers advances on your pay check, so will inevitably have a good night on my birthday!
For now,
Josh xx
Sorry for the random photo of niagra falls (actually not too far from here) cant get the photos off my camera/iphone!
Please ask away on any questions, id love to hear any you have about camp, and it gives something for me to write about!
