Hey everyone!
Just a quick update on how everything is going on camp. As i said before most of the day is spent doing repetitive things, so its less boring if i dont write about them. Now that camp has started proper im missing pre camp again. What we used to find a chore with around 170 people is nothing compared to the full 720 on camp now. Obviously we're all getting better at our jobs and getting quicker, but it still takes up a good part of my day.
Usual routine is up at 6:30, work til around 9:30, back in for 11, out for 2, then back in for 4:30, done by 7:30. So around a 9 hr day in all.
Only majorly new development is we now have a new member on our team - we were really struggling with 4 (more towards a 10 or 11 hr day) so asked the directors if they could get someone else in. So they just grabbed one of the kitchen porters and shoved her in our team. The only problem is she literally speaks about 10 words of English, having grown up in Quebec. However, being translator all the time is excellent for my french, and i have become good friends with all of the kitchen staff, often spending my evenings with them over "les anglais".
Impressed at how much ive remembered, and actually managing to hold a conversation quite easily now.
Usually spend my days over at the french camp (they have their own little group of shacks away from everyone else) playing chess, watching a film or just chatting. Or with everyone else, chilling down by the lake (getting my tan on!) sleeping or whatever camp activity we want to do.
Had my 1st day off yesterday, which of course i was ill for. Most people seem to have caught a bit of a head cold, which usually lasts for 2 or 3 days. I seemed to get it worse than most people, but it didnt even last until much past 5pm, having woken up feeling crap in the morning. Bit of a disappointing way to spend my 1st day off but oh well.
Also had 2 massive storms yesterday, which were so loud i thought our little shack was going to topple over. They actually woke me up, for those of you that know me that kind of shows how loud they were. I didnt wake up when i was in an earthquake in Christchurch, but did in a thunderstorm in Ontario. Anyway it soon cleared up and were back to baking hot days again.
Lastly - ran to the general store the other day for food, snacks etc... The nearest store to camp is 7km away, so it took us about 45 mins each way, so 14km round trip. Just shows how far away we are from everything!
Think thats pretty much everything remotely interesting thats happened in the last week!
So for now,
Josh xx
Picture is of the city hall in Toronto, where i spent ages getting my social security nonsense.

Claire Shann Glad that you are settling in well. Ian and I are in Greece having a great holiday. Playing lots of tennis and then doing lots of sunbathing. Bliss. Enjoy the rest of the summer. Glad to hear you are using your French. Claire x
M Pleased to hear that your speaking French :) I am still at school till 29th July :( Boo goes off to France on a school trip next Saturday. So you have to run to a store to get snacks, no doubt burning off all the calories contained in said snacks !! We are all really forward to seeing you in 48 days :)))) hb's & sb's Momma G
