Soooooo its was still pouring down with rain when we arrived in Tuticorin, the rain was definitely following us! Lots of nice scenery on the bus journey though, down south it is very green with palm tress everywhere! Tanya's uncle is the Airport Manager so we stayed in Tuticorin airport. He was invited to the wedding of one of his employee's on Sunday so we went along as well. We went to the wedding reception at the couple's house and without meaning to we became an attraction, they had a huge camera and as soon as we walked in they filmed us and took lots of photos, we are well and truly featured in their wedding album! They gave us lots to eat, introduced us to the whole family and even kissed our feet. The whole time they never stopped filming!
We then drove to Kanniyakumari which is the sounthern most tip of India where 3 seas meet (Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal!) and we watched the sun set. It was too late to head back to Tanya's uncle's so he used his contacts and we stayed in a posh hotel for free, we fitted in perfectly with our smelly travelling attire! We then got up really early to see the sun rise. Tanya's uncle also had some more contacts at Tuticorin Harbour and we ended up on a huge cargo ship, met the Korean crew and then had dinner and drinks with the coastal guard on board their ship! Women weren't suppose to be in the area past 6pm so all the sailors were loving a sneaky peak at my ankles!
We then headed to Varkala, our first stop in Kerela -
We got there a day late due to; bad weather (dam cyclone again), getting slightly lost, being advised by locals to take a different route and the fact that the buses we were supposed to get didn't exist. Anyway, some 5 scary buses later we checked into a dingy hotel at midnight… luckily the next day we were laying on a beach!
We stayed in a nice resort (we splashed out on a few pounds) and had a chilled out time eating fish. Our first proper touristy area!
