Sooo… I arrived in Chennai early Tues morning and its been mental ever since! Me and Rachel are staying with Tanya in her Grandma's flat just outside of the city, but there's no running water so it's a bucket wash for me every morning! And so the experience begins…
We have spent the week exploring Chennai and Tanya knows it really well so we have been all over! It is crazy - there are people, COWS, old style cars, motorbikes auto rick shaws (of course) every where you look! It took a while to get used to, at first going near the road was a near death experience, and I thought I would not survive my first rick shaw ride - the roads are a law unto themselves! There are so many people, loads of rubbish and waste, so many shops selling everything you could think of, street sellers, beggars, people shacked up on the streets and men just seem to pee anywhere (like a friday night in bromley!)
It is crowded dusty and very hot, but I love it!
So getting past all the madness, we have been to some churches, temples, parks, museums and more… Ive been eating loads of Indian food, we have a house keeper who is the sweetest little Indian lady and she cooks for us and then sleeps on the floor! It is also ridiculously cheap. The toilet experience is something else, but I wont go in to detail about trying to wee down a hole and then using a bucket of water!
We leave on Sunday and are traveling around the south for a month, we have lots planned and I am so excited!
Hope all is well back home!!
Lots of love xxx
