Jess in Europe
Woah... what a day.
We got up early this morning to get to the St. Peters cathedral early, I didnt sleep at all last night for some reason...I didnt feel like breakfast this morning, I wasnt feelng very good. This should all have been a warning.
First let me start off by explaining the atmosphere in Rome right now. It is PACKED with religous groups of preteen and teenagers, they all go around in these large pods with there same colored hats and teeshirts singing annoying camp like songs in multiple languages (Evann says most are chanting the current popes name, but what ever, it is still annoying). They stop in horrible places on the street they block doorways, clog trains, basically they only people in Rome who DONT think they are annoying are the groups themselves...
Anyway, so we get up early this morning to try and avoid all of those "hat people" as I have dubbed them, and we had to share a metro with a whole slew of them, it is like they are following me, but I had hope, Rome is a big city after all. We are walking towards the catherdreal and there are pods of them martching along (seriously!) clapping and chanting the popes name... WEIRD. This all made sence when we got to security and saw THOUSANDS of them PACKED into the cathedral. Seriously, the place was stuffed at the seams. I guess the pope was offering his blessiing that day, so we were ushered in before we could even decide if we wanted to stay. I suppose it is cool that I got to see the pope, but I was surrounded by these religious teens all acting nuts, pushing me around and shoving to get by, and I already didnt feel good. THIS should have been another sign.
We listened to the pope yadda on in German and Italian, I took some pictures that look cool, but high tailed it out of there after awhile and BEFORE the thousands of people had the same idea.
We walked over to the Vatican City, which is just around the corner, paid the 8.00€ to go and see the sistine chapel and the Vatcan musame and the whole time we were walking I started feeling more tired and more sick, the Sstine Chapel, is actually amazing, the whole thing is beautiful and almost unbelievable that one man painted it.
As we were headed out, Evann wanted to stop and get post cards to mail, but I couldnt really understand what she was saying so I sat for a bit and undizzyed myself while she went off and did her thing, When we got up to leave, I still felt bad, but we were heading to eat, so I thought it would make me feel better. You have to go down these crazy ass circle steps and I just wanted to make it all the way down as fast as possible, well, at the very end, with the door in site, I actually passed out. The last set of stairs. I am the girl that passed out in Vaticun city. DOH! Thankfully I didnt totally hit my head or stay passed out, I just stummbled and fell down on my butt and was able to get up after a moment. Anyway, felt like s***, we got a power aid and some lunch, and I seem to be doing better now. Gonna take it easy the rest of the day, THATS for sure. I cant believe I am the girl that passed out in the Vaticun City lobby... so close to being out the door.
Anyway, I found some cool Patrons\saints for my friends (and family) who constantly lose things and a Pope magnet for Natalie. I am trying to upload pictures and book a train ticket to Naples and Capri (YAY back to the beach!). I am going to try and Venture out to the Pateon tonight when it is cooler and NOT be that girl who passes out there... DOH!
More later peeps!
