Jess in Europe
Woah,
Been awhile! Maddness with traveling! havent had time to keep you updated! :)
Venice is beautiful! After a looog train ride, okay, only 5 hours but it was on an Italian train! I stepped out on to the little cobblestone streets of Venice and it was beautiful! My first order of business was to get to my hotel which was actually on Lido Island, very beautiful! I had to catch a "water bus" to get there! I looove the water bus! I was kind of worried that Veince was going to be a crap hole because of the way some describe it, but I thought it was amazing...
anyway, I get to Lido after finding my way through a maze of streets and learning that the Italian goal is to try and get you as lost as possible, while telling you it is only "5 minutes walk" 5 minutes??? try 45 due to bad directions!!! I arrived at the hotel to wake Evann from a nap (hard life for us here, I know) and our first order of business was too head to the beach where we discovered that toppless sunbathing was accepted in Italy too! Walked into the water which was crazy shallow for what felt like a mile out and thought that we were going to come across a 30 ft drop at any moment. Enjoyed the crystal blue water and decided to head in before the thunderstorm did.
Changed and got ready to hit the bar town of Lido and find dinner since I tend not to eat a whole lot unless Evann is around, I was starving. Plus it saves money only eating once a day! :) Found a pizzera that the only way we could choke down our last Italian meal was with a lot of wine. I AM SO TIRED OF ITALIAN FOOD! Anyway, the pizza was alright, but seriously? no more pasta and pizza. Ever.
Wandered down to this beach disco tech where there were a bunch of 18/19 year olds that were acting like they were on E, and after being kissed by the strange bartender and having him squirt water into my drink and being attacked by misquitos, we deemed it time to find a new bar.
Ended up at a wine place where it was only 3 E a glass, but he wanted to charge me 50 for the bottle? doesnt make sence. What ever! had a few glasses and determined that the night scene must be IN venice and that the 18 year old in their Lacoste shirts and white pants were here on daddys dime for the summer. :)
Ventured into Venice the next day and sadly ended up spending a lot of time in the train station due to a series of misshaps that include, a eurail pass left at the hotel (doh!), the 2 hour boat trip on horrible water bus 82, missing Evann in the train station for 50 mins even though we were only 2 feet apart, doh! we ended up getting our tickets for the next night to head out of Italy.
Our quest that afternoon was to eat at the 1 mexican food resturant on the Island of Venice, we wandered and shopped and made our way around the crazy streets with a map that was no use to us because most of the street names arent on the streets, glass is a big deal so we went into some of the shops and spent a lot of money on cool stuff for other people, and some for us. :) Then waited for the mexican food restuarant to open. Yup, we waited 45 minutes dor it to open then went in and drank and waited 30 mins for the kitchen to open. Then we proceeded to get pissed with Margerita's, Sangria, and more margeritas. The mexican food wasnt the best, but it tasted SO good to be eating something non pizza or pasta! :)
Ended up staggering back to the water boat a little late and with every intention of changing into our swimsuites and heading out to the ocean, but the water boat is a long ride and we got so tired from the crazy walking, so we pussed out and passed out.
Up early the next day we went and checked out and checked our bags into the train station baggage thingamajig and wandered around all day. We headed to San Marco Piazza, where we got lost in the prision, and broke the silly "do not cross" ropes to get out! Did some more shopping on fun and pretty glass gifts to try and make it home unscathed, ate at the 1 chinese resturant in Venice and headed to the train to take our night trains. Mine to Dussledorf and Evann to Vienna for the day!
YAY! Dussledorf is next!
