Jesse and Bec's Great Escape
Our flight with Virgin America from San Francisco to San Diego was great except for the extra $25 per bag that they charge. They had free wifi at the terminal and also on the plane while travelling and ports for you to plug your phones and laptops in to charge them if needed. The weather is lovely here, it is t-shirt weather during the day and gets quite cool after 5ish. Our accommodation is great especially after our place at San Francisco, it probably wouldn't have been so bad if I didnt read all the reviews where other people said they were attacked by bed bugs so I spent the nights itching and being paranoid that I was getting attacked, I think the best way to describe that room would be similar to what I would imagine the rooms at the Lycium hotel in Longreach to be like (says it all). In San Diego we have a fridge and microwave so have started watching the budget and buying groceries that we eat in our room which is interesting, we still haven't managed to find a supermarket that sells any fruit or veg that isnt in cans so we arnt feeling very healthy at this stage. We are slowly getting more travel savvy and managed to look up the bus schedule and get ourselves to Ocean Beach which we are quite proud of, although for some reason when we got off the bus at the last stop we walked in the wrong direction for about 20minutes and found the Sunset Cliffs National park then walked back to the beach which was right near the bus stop (not sure why we did that), we saw some beautiful houses though so are guessing that is the high socio-economic area of town. When we finally made it to the beach 40minutes later it was a bit of a let down (I think Australians have very high expectations of beaches because ours are so magnificent). Blake and Nat arrived Friday and we went to the San Diego Zoo for the day, there were heaps of different animals so we were very impressed, its a lot of walking for one day though especially because we walked from the hotel to save money on cabs and then walked to a great bar afterwards called the YardHouse and fluked being there right on happy hour which meant we got cheap drinks and half priced meals, good timing. The next day we got up early and went to Seaworld, it was raining in the morning which worked out well for us becuase there was barely anyone there and we were able to see all the shows and didn't have any line up for rides, the whale presentation with 'Shamu' the killer whale was amazing and we had a really great day. That night we decided to walk until we found a mexican restaurant to eat at (when in San Diego you must eat mexican), Blake asked a street sweeper man where we should go and he recommended a beutiful place which had the best mexican food I have ever eaten. After dinner we walked across the road to a chocolate place called Ghirardelli's (recommended by a friend Cherie), they had endless chocolate and ice-cream and I got a choc chip cookie that was more like 10 cookies packed together it was soo massive and Jesse had a strawberry covered in chocolate (he isn't much of a desert person), as you can see in the picture Blake got an ice-cream cone which took him half an hour to eat. The night life on Market street was pumping and there were people everywhere enjoying themselves so we had a great night. San Diego is pleasently different to what we expected and we have thoroughly enjoyed our time here.
