Another busy day in Buenos Aires! We had an early start and made our way to the Plaza Congreso which is a 2 minute walk from our hostel, where the very grand Congreso de la Nacion lives. We then went down town, and after a few wrong turns, found a subte (subway) station to take us to Palermo. It's a very pretty, classy neighbourhood with lots of nice cafes and restaurants. Naturally we couldn't afford any of these, so we sat in the botanical garden and made our own sandwiches for about 2 pounds! It was beautiful and the sun was shining, although we did get harassed by some stray cats, and were a bit worried about catching rabies, so we had to run away! We had a stroll around and then went to the Museo Evita where we learnt all about Eva Peron. We were both a bit clueless about her so it was great, think she's become a bit of an idol now! After that we walked all the way down to Recoleta, through the parks, stopping to take lots of photos. Next we had a short stop at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, but as neither of us know anything about art, we weren't taken by anything, and didn't stick around too long. Mostly we discussed which of the modern, contemporary art we could've produced ourselves! We had a look around the Basilica Nuestra Señora del Pilar, which is a pretty modern church, and then to the cemetary where Evita was buried... had to stalk a guided tour in order to find the grave, it's like a maze! We went back to the hostel to get changed and then went to and tango school, where we had a lesson, dinner and then watched a show. The lesson was quite detailed and definitely worth the money, but we felt a bit silly as we had to dance together, while the rest were couples! I (Gemma) was the man, but the instructor didn't seem to understand, so when he danced with me i had to be the woman, and obviously didn't know that part! We were naturals anyway so it didn't really matter! :-p Had a lovely dinner of steak, and then the show began on the stage (right in front of our table) and around the restaurant as well! I was a bit worried about my glass of wine (and in fact my face) when they were swinging their legs around! The tango was absolutely amazing, and there was a live band and singers too... Such a good show! Unfortunately, i got dragged up to dance, but it was tame, don't worry, i didn't completely die of embarrassment! Got a minibus back to the hostel (luxury!) and collapsed in bed at midnight... we're so hardcore!
Sorry to ramble... Hope you're all good... See you in Iguazu!
