After a couple of days on the road we finally arrived in Melbourne. Actually getting into the city or St Kilda (the area we were staying in) was quite a challenge. Signposts in Australia seem to be directing you to certain roads so without a detailed map we had to guess our way to St kilda but between the four of us, we made it there.
First impressions of St kilda weren't that fantastic. It has a beach (but we've seen nicer ones), the town was quite cute though. It has the most fabulous 'old school' cake shops and even those without a sweet tooth would be tempted by the hundreds of different bits and pieces on offer.
We met up with Russel again who was already down in Melbourne. Sal, Ed, Russel and Mike went to the Australian Open which was a full day on baking in the extreme sunshine. There seemed to be a really great atmosphere and was good to see the top tennis players.
That night we all went to a 'Neighbours Night' at a local pub. Some of the cast were there and we all managed to get our photos taken with Karl Kennedy which was fab. It was such a cheesy night but we had fun. Karl's band played later in the evenings, covering loads of indie bands which was actually quite good!
After Mike and Ed flew back up to Sydney we decided to drive down the Great Ocean Road. we managed to cover the whole coastal route within a day quite easily. It was really a fantastic bit of scenery, although the roads were quite windy in parts which made us feel a bit sicky! highs of the road were seeing wild Koalas sat up in the gum trees and seeing the impressive 12 Apostles were a really nice photo opportunity. We were only able to see 6 of the huge rocks standing tall just off the coast line but helicopter rides were on offer to see them all from above (if you have the money!).
After a night in Warnambool at the end of the Ocean Road we decided to head back up to Sydney to meet up with the others for one last time before we actually start our drive up the east coast!!!
