Jen and Tor's tour
Ok...so we're in Phi Phi and i'll start at the begining becaus ethats where you normally start, be a little confusing if i worked backwards...
So we landed on Phi Phi Don, which is the bigger of the two islands and again we were immediately captured by one of the guys promoting his hotels and given a massive speech on how his was the cheapest best motel on the island blah blah blah. We escaped him and wandered over to another stand where we heard an australian lady talking of a very nice place she had been staying at...got the info and off we trudged!
Why is it that we seem to pick the furthest away accomodation we can possible find?! After walking for about 15 minutes through small winding back streets and then climbing what seemed like a mini mountain with our backpacks on (slight exaggeration, there were about 15 steps - that were very steep - and a path that had a, well lets be honest, fairly mild slope...but when you have 15+kg on your back it's bloody hard - plus we were already sweating lots by this point...) anyway...after having lost most of our bodily fluid to sweat (nice) we found our little hideaway in the forest. And it was very cool, again had we been a romantic couple it would've been paradise - Big bed, beautiful wooden hut and rather large mosquito net that made it look like a set from "Arabian nights".
After we lounged around a bit in the hammock and got showered and ready, we headed down to the main town where we had a very nice meal and used the internet. We met up again with a couple of the guys we met on the bus/boat over here - Tom and Murray and went for drinks with them...
Next day we got up early and went off to book a day tour round the islands...and it was sooo worth it. The tour boat left at nine and it took us off to about 5/7 locations...we saw where the nests were collected for use in the chinese bird nest soup (grose!) then we headed off to the smaller Phi Phi Ley and stopped off at this beautiful little bay for snorkelling (half hour here) - saw some cool fish here that will mean nothing to you if i tell you the names, but they were cool to me! After that we headed to the cove where 'The Beach' was filmed...and yes it was beautiful, but annoyingly we didnt get to go on it as the sea was too choppy so we couldnt swim (or i think thats what the guy said)....then we went to shark point, again saw a really cool and rarish fish but no sharks...rubbish. Erm, then we went to Bamboo island and this has got to be one of the most amazingly beautiful places ever...there's nothing on it as its protected and it's just awesome - the water is crystal blue and the sand is pearly white...breathtaking! We had an hour here, snorkelling and sunbathing - saw an eel which was cool, he was huge!
Then we went to Monkey bay, Tor and i kayaked over there and stood and watched them for a while before making a hastey departure...one of the little b*****s attacked Tor! Though don't worry, there was no real mark and it didnt draw blood, unlike the other girl on our tour that got attacked - they're nasty!
And i think that's it, after that we returned to the main island (4pm) and went and had fruit shakes on the beach whilst the sun went down..
That night we met up with some people we met on the tour that day, Paul, Gemma, Sophie and John and went to have drinks...didnt stay too long though coz we hadn't eaten and we were hungry!
Next morning we packed our bags and lugged them all the way back to the jetty again to catch our morning boat to Phuket where we were due to fly from that afternoon.
And that's about it from Phi Phi i think...very nice stay here, very beautiful place. Wish we could've had a few more days here but like always we had to move on...next stop Malaysia! That's our Thai experience done now and we're about a third of the way through...god it goes fast!
So next installment will be from Malaysia, but until then enjoy the photos! Will try to do the first step of malayisa soon as i'm getting a little behind and i'm starting to forget stuff...!
