Funny journey on the night train and neither of us slept too well. The motion feels odd and you can hear the train more than we thought you'd be able to. Got to Venice fine and had a bit of a mission finding the hotel as there are ao many narrow tiny passageways and the directions we had told us to go on a water bus to a stop that wasn't in use for the next few days (typical) so had to amend. Eventually found it and left our bags to check in later and went to explore Venice. We were blown away at how beautiful it is. We are only a few minutes walk from St Marks Square making it easy to get on a water bus or find somewhere to eat. We wandered round and then had some lunch in the square- lovely people watching. We then went up the old bell tower and got some gorgeous photos of the views. After that we could check in so we did that and got freshened up ready to go out for the afternoon. We got a good price for a gondola ride so jumped on one. Was so amazing drifting through the various waterways and on he grand canal. We learnt that there are over 400 bridges to connect all the 390 Islands together that make up Venice. After this we got a water bus to a different part of Venice (Zaretta) and found a lovely restaurant on a jetty over the water and we had dinner here with a glass of prosecco (no beer today)!! After dinner we went searching for the note that Kate had left me and we finally found it yay! Another quick drink in the square and we headed back to the hotel. Tired but absolutely loving Venice! Buonanotte :-)
